Mission

The mission of the Bachelor of Architecture program is to train students to develop critical thinking through deep analysis of architectural history and theory, to increase awareness of environmental, urban, social, and cultural issues, and most importantly, to design, based on a process of research, analysis, and conceptual thinking that lead to innovative architectural applications.

 

Accreditation

The Department of Architecture at the Ramez G. Chagoury Faculty of Architecture, Arts, and Design is currently a candidate for accreditation by NAAB. The Department is set to submit its self-study report to the NAAB committee with an official visit to campus soon after, scheduled for 2023.

Program Educational Objectives

The Bachelor of Architecture program offered by the Department of Architecture at the Ramez G. Chagoury, Faculty of Architecture, Arts and Design (FAAD), aims at:

  1. 1.Providing the learner with the proper exposure to enhance reflective approach to design and foster students’ critical thinking;
  2. 2.Developing the intellectual and theoretical backgrounds of the students through the study of ancient, modern and contemporary history, and theories of architecture;
  3. 3.Increasing student’s awareness with respect to environmental and social issues. This concern mainly focuses on the interrelated influence between the human being, society, and architecture;
  4. 4.Contributing in building-up an architectural epistemology; and
  5. 5.Preparing the learner for professional practice and post-graduate studies.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the University admission requirements, prospective candidates must complete all remedial courses, Math and/or English, if any, during their first year at NDU. Students who fail to meet the above requirements will not be allowed to proceed to the degree courses in Architecture and other majors of the Ramez G. Chagoury, Faculty of Architecture, Arts and Design. All first-year applicants must complete the Admission Requirements.

 

 

Graduation Requirements

To obtain the degree of bachelor of architecture, a student must complete a total of 172 credits with an overall GPA of at least 2.0/4.0.
In addition, all Core and major courses must be successfully completed with a minimum grade of “C-”.  
In addition, all Architectural Design courses (ARP 222, 232, 311, 322, 433, 444, 555, 556, 590, 592 and 594) must be successfully completed with a minimum grade of “C+”.

 

Prior to enrolling into the ARP 590-Senior Study courses, student will have to fulfill the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 21 credits of their LAC courses must be completed prior to taking ARP 590 as well as completing the following prerequisites: ARP 454, ARP 556, ARP 438, ARP 562.
  • Courses CSC 201, MAT 201 and MAT 202 are not allowed for Architecture students.
  • ARP 329 is obligatory for Architecture students.

Students interested in becoming entrepreneurs and growing their business ideas are advised to take as a free elective ENT 302 Entrepreneurship: Launching New Ventures. Students interested in pursuing an MBA are advised to take two of the following courses as free electives: MGT 620, MGT 630, MRK 620, PRM 625, PRM 635 or PRM 645. Note that these courses will be counted towards obtaining the MBA degree.
