Mission

The mission of the Master of Arts in English Language and Literature is to enhance students' understanding of English literature and the intricacies of the English language. Graduates of this program will be equipped with the analytical and conceptual tools necessary for advanced studies in English, as well as for pursuing careers in foreign language teaching, program administration, and communications.

 

Program Educational Objectives

The program will prepare students to:

  1. 1.Develop an understanding of the process of foreign language acquisition and language learning;
  2. 2.Build on their academic and professional experiences to make the link between linguistic theory and actual practice;
  3. 3.Master pedagogical principles of course design, curriculum development, and language assessment in teaching English as a foreign language; and
  4. 4. Become researchers and reflect on Applied Linguistics as an academic field of inquiry.

 

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, students should be able to:

  1. 1.Apply leading theories of second language learning and acquisition;
  2. 2.Analyze their academic and professional experiences in light of the theories and latest trends in the field of second language acquisition;
  3. 3.Demonstrate the application of pedagogical skills in writing instructional objectives, effectively planning classroom instruction, developing teaching material, and assessing learning;
  4. 4.Plan research studies, collect and analyze data, and draw theoretical and practical conclusions using appropriate tools and methods; and
  5. 5.Construct a code of ethics to guide their professional and personal lives.

 

Admission Requirements

Preference is granted to applicants who possess additional qualifications and professional experience, such as teaching. To have their application considered, applicants are required to provide evidence of a high level of proficiency in English, with a minimum score of 60 on the EET (English Entrance Test) being necessary for admission. For those opting to take the GRE (Graduate Record Exam), proof of a satisfactory performance is also mandatory.

 

Graduation Requirements

To meet the requirements for the Master of Arts in English Language and Literature with an emphasis on Applied Linguistics and TEFL, the student must successfully complete 30 credits with an overall average of 3.0/4.0, including the submission and defense of a thesis. A minimum passing grade for a graduate course is "C." Graduate students are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for all courses taken within their graduate program, with no more than 2 "Cs" allowed per program.
