NDU AND CHEDID RE RENEW PARTNERSHIP TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO OUTSTANDING STUDENTS AWARDED THE CHEDID RE SCHOLARSHIP IN ACTUARIAL SCIENCES

Notre Dame University-Louaize, in cooperation with Chedid Re, a member of Chedid Capital Holding, signed an agreement back in 2019 to provide scholarships to outstanding students part of the Chedid Re Scholarship in Actuarial Sciences.

A new cohort has now embarked on this academic journey as Chedid Re renew their partnership with NDU offering new partial scholarships to selected students. NDU graduate students Liana Barsoumian and Pascale Bou Chahine received the Chedid Re scholarship with partial scholarship for Fall 2021.

President of NDU, Fr. Bechara Khoury, highlighted the importance of this agreement and in providing new opportunities for the rising talents in an increasingly challenging market.

Discussing the renewed cooperation between NDU and Chedid Capital Holding, Farid Chedid, Chairman and CEO of Chedid Capital said: "Over the years, we have heavily invested into attracting, retaining and empowering top talents and our bet today is on the young actuarial students and the risk management knowledge they will bring to our business.”

Realizing the increasing need for qualified actuaries in the insurance sector, NDU was the first to offer the Actuarial Sciences specialization in Lebanon back in 1993. Students holding a BS in Actuarial Sciences or a related field like Mathematics, Statistics or have a Bachelor of Engineering or Financial Engineering, can apply for the Master of Science degree in Actuarial Sciences at NDU supported by the Chedid Re scholarship.

Dr. Roger Nakad, Chairperson for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences highlighted that nowadays, with the unpredictability of the current situation, and the continuous fluctuations in the economic and demographic conditions, there is an increasing local and regional need for qualified actuaries. Students from different relevant backgrounds can join the Master program which links them directly and indirectly to the job market.

From their end, Liana explained how happy she is with the program and how she believes it will open very promising doors in her career path while Pascale stated how thankful she is to have been selected for the scholarship and shared her colleague’s enthusiasm for the program and its future offerings.
