STUDENT UNION ELECTIONS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-2022

The Office of Student Affairs (SAO) at NDU held the Student Union (SU) Elections for the academic year 2021-2022 on November 26, 2021 with the support of the Elections Committee, administration, and staff. The election process ran smoothly and the democratic atmosphere reflected the students’ high ethical standards and the spirit of fair competition.

The election process for the SU at NDU adopts the majority voting system in the larger faculties that have more than 300 students and the one-man-one-vote approach for smaller faculties that have less than 300 students. Election day attracted a large number of students who wished to exercise their voting right by selecting representatives that they feel best reflect their voices and can carry their demands to the University administration. An Elections Committee was in place to supervise the whole election process ensuring that no violations get overlooked.

The Dean of Students and Chair of the Elections Committee, Dr. Charbel Zgheib, stated, “The elections are running with a high spirit of democracy reflecting the University’s mission in initiating enlightened and responsible citizenship. He added, “We are proud of the NDU students who are exercising the right to have their voices heard and who have portrayed high levels of seriousness throughout the process giving us hope for the future of Lebanon.”

The elections sought to fill 27 seats with different electoral programs covering the seven faculties. The voting ended at 4:00 pm, and the vote sorting was done in the presence and supervision of the Elections Committee and the candidate representatives.

NDU President, Fr. Bechara Khoury, addressed the students by stating, “We see the future of our country in your eyes. We want to see you become leaders and visionaries; we want you to be foundation of the future of Lebanon.” He added, “Appreciate and accept your differences, respect the others’ rights and programs, widen the space for open negotiations and debates, and believe that victory is not achieved in numbers but in the realization of your dreams and your constructive ambitions.”

Congratulations to the new NDU Student Union for the academic year 2021-2022:
