NDU TEAM WINS DEEL COMPETITION

For the second year in a row, NDU students win the “Lebanese Student Entrepreneurship” competition as part of the Développement de l’Entrepreneuriat Etudiant au Liban (DEEL) project organized by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) at the French Embassy in Lebanon.

A committee, set up by the Assistant Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Ghazi Asmar, selected, for the final competition pitch, one team out of two to represent NDU at DEEL. The committee, which comprised the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Talal Salem, and the Chair of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Najib Metni, unanimously, selected the team from the Shouf Campus based on the originality of their business idea and the competitive advantage that it presented.

The selected team was formed of three students, Omar Abou Saleh, Financial Engineering, Zeina Zwayhed, Human Resource Management, and Pascale Nasr, Computer Communication Engineering. The team was supervised by Dr. Talie Kassamany, Coordinator of the Faculty of Business Administration & Economics at the Shouf Campus (FBAE-SC). Their project, titled “Lawyers Group in Lebanon” (LGL), is an online platform and mobile application that connects people with lawyers and helps solve jurisprudence cases, thus facilitating the communications through modern technological means, and providing opportunities for lawyers to be part of the judiciary system in Lebanon.
It is worth noting that DEEL jury member, Mr. Michel Helou, who is also the CEO of L'Orient-Le Jour, stated that the NDU project was an ambitious one and a potential need for the Lebanese society.

The NDU team was among the top winners of 13 participating universities in Lebanon. All winners were offered a fully-funded trip to France to spend four weeks developing their entrepreneurship skills at business incubator.

Congratulations to Omar Abou Saleh, Pascale Nasr, and Zeina Zwayhed and best of luck in their future endeavors.
