NDU PROFESSOR PRESENTS NEW UNDIO & MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR COVID-19

May 20, 2020 – Under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Lebanon, H.E. Dr. Hassan Diab, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in partnership with the Ministry of Industry, launched safety guidelines for the industrial sector entitled "Recommendations and Preventive Measures in Response to COVID-19”. Dr. Layal Karam, Assistant Professor in Food Safety & Quality Management at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) and UNIDO consultant, delivered a presentation explaining the Guidance and the 12 prepared measures to help the industrial sector cope with COVID-19.

 

Dr. Karam put forward that the industrial sector is a critical pillar and the future of Lebanese economy. As such, preventing the spread of COVID-19 in industries is essential to protecting and boosting their resilience, and helping them overcome new challenges.

 

The event was held at the Grand Serail in the presence of H.E. Dr. Imad Hoballah, Minister of Industry, representing the Prime Minister, Dr. Hassan Diab; H.E. Dr. Hamad Hassan, Minister of Public Health; H.E. Mr. Abbas Mortada, Minister of Agriculture; H.E. Mrs. Lamia Yammine Douaihy, Minister of Labor; H.E. Ms. Nicoletta Bombardiere, Ambassador of Italy to Lebanon; H.E. Mr. Okubo Takeshi, Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon; Mr. Claudio Cordone, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim, UN representatives, foreign diplomats, and other senior officials.
