NDU NLC IN 2ND ANNUAL NUMED EDUCATIONAL TOOL INTER0UNIVERSITY CONTEST

The Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences (FNHS) at Notre Dame University-Louaize North Lebanon Campus (NDU-NLC) was represented by a team of two students (Rosalie Malkoun and Jason Ghanem) and guided by FNHS Coordinator Cecile Obeid to partake on May 20, 2017, in the “2nd Annual Educational Tool Inter-university Contest” organized by the NUMED company. The contest, which was held at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Hamra District, Beirut, aimed at creating an educational tool to promote better nutrition and healthy eating.

Malkoun and Ghanem performed exceptionally well. Drawing inspiration from the traditional board game RISK, which is a strategy board game of diplomacy, conflict, and conquest, the students created their own version, and called it “Nutritional RISK Factors.”

The purpose of the new game is to conquer and eliminate Nutritional Risk Factors (assigned to the continents of the world), by adopting the most appropriate strategy when moving the various armies, in this case: macronutrients, micronutrients, and physical activity. Players are guided by nutritional educational tools that come with the game, such as My Pyramid for adolescents, and a wealth of health tips printed on the mission cards.

Although the team only clinched the contest’s third spot, the professionalism and creativity they demonstrated made NLC proud.
