The Sophomore English Rhetoric, ENL 213, class at Notre Dame University-Louaize North Lebanon Campus (NDU-NLC) held on May 19, 2017, a 90-minute long public debate on the topic of “Computerized Official Exams for 3rd-Year Secondary Students.”
Around 80 students and their teachers from École Des Filles de la Charité attended the debate. ENL 213 Course Instructor at NLC Mickeal Hajj welcomed the guests and underscored the value of developing good debating strategies as one of the means to counter the rising trend of violence.
During the debate, one group argued in favor of the implemented change and deemed it a valuable tool in ending the problems caused by the current system. This group also viewed the change as a step in the right direction given that the new system confirms that Lebanon is abreast of educational advancements in the modern world. The opposing group, however, insisted that the current testing method was compatible with the Lebanese educational system and only required tweaking in certain areas.
A discussion with the audience followed the debate.
