The Public Relations class (comprising of Melissa Roukoz, Rachelle Makhlouf, Pamela Chahin, Bahjat Salem and Yahya Zein) at Notre Dame University-Louaize North Lebanon Campus (NDU-NLC) organized on Thursday May 28, 2016, a seminar to raise awareness on the potential risks and dangers associated with drug abuse.
Guest speaker Fr. Majdi Allawi was met by a large audience led by a majority of the NLC administration. Prominent attendees included the NLC Assistant Director of PR Edgard Harb and PR Administrative Assistant Elsie Kfoury Girgis.
Fr. Majdi iterated the major causes related to today’s drug abuse epidemic, which usually start at a relatively young age. He stated that the degree of parental care plays a crucial role in determining whether children would ever resort to such deadly means to escape reality or not.
Fr. Majdi called a man named Joseph to come forward and testify about his 18 year addiction to drugs and how it devastated his life. Joseph echoed Fr. Majdi’s viewpoints and further cast proof from personal experience that parental neglect is detrimental to the upbringing of a child in the long-term.
Following the seminar, the guests were offered snacks and a large ceremonial cake, which was designed to correspond to the “Say No To Drugs” campaign.
