NDU GRADUATE TEAM WINS BEST POSTER AT ICAART

February 18-21, 2019 – Graduate Assistant and Computer Science Master’s Student at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU), Miriam el Khoury Badran, won the award for Best Poster at the International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence (ICAART). Badran was part of a team comprised of Dr. Jacques Abdo and Wissam Jurdi, from NDU’s Shouf Campus, and Dr. Jacques Demerjian from the Lebanese University.

The ICAART’s purpose is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the theory and applications in the areas of Agents and Artificial Intelligence. This year’s event was hosted in Vienna House Diplomat Prague, Czech Republic, and featured keynote speakers, from places as far apart as the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and Cornell University, in the United States.

Forty-six posters in total were up for the ICAART Best Poster Award, which Badran and her team won, with their poster on using serendipity – a fortunate accident – as a tool to create higher satisfaction in online recommendations. The poster’s aim was to demonstrate that including some serendipity at the cost of profile accuracy will result in a higher user satisfaction, thereby making it more favorable to implement, and hopefully resulting in fewer online echo chambers.

Congratulations to Miriam el Khoury Badran, Jacques Abdo, Wissam Jurdi, and Jacques Demerjian.
