WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OUR MUSIC DEPARTMENT THIS SUMMER?

Three musical workshops, two MOUs, and live concerts … a music lover’s paradise!

Following the signing of an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lebanese Band Association for the Promotion of Music (LeBAM), Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) hosted a jazz workshop where participants received world-class jazz instruction during a one-week summer session. This MOU equally served the goals and interests of both parties by emphasizing life-long learning and instruction in producing good ensemble music.

On July 1, 2017, and for the fifth consecutive year, the NDU – LeBAM Musical Festival revealed its jam-packed program. The Festival was full of strong choices and daring evenings against the backdrop of NDU’s state-of-the-art studios, practice rooms, and ensemble rehearsal rooms.

Chairperson of the Department of Music at NDU Dr. Lola Beyrouthi said, “In contrast to language, music presents a unity that is both cosmopolitan and strong. Consequently, NDU Music Summer Camps need to be strictly focused on music to bring together all nationalities that play jazz, woodwind, and brass ensembles as well as string orchestra and chamber music.”

The Festival’s first workshop took place on a Saturday morning with 63 participants from across Lebanon and the world in addition to 14 world-renowned instructors who discovered the hidden talents in students. The result? At the end of the workshop, they all gathered to play in unique and never-before-heard combinations.
