The Faculty of Engineering (FE) at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) hosted from November 9-10, 2016, the first “Project Management Board Meeting” within the framework of the Gas and Oil Processing, a European Lebanese Cooperation (GOPELC) project.

The GOPELC is a European Union (EU)-funded ERASMUS + project based on cooperation between European and Lebanese partners aimed at setting up a master’s program covering the latest technology in well-drilling and oil-refining.

The European project partners are the Petroleum & Gas University of Ploieşti (UPG), Romania; Ecole des Mines de Saint-Étienne, France; and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden. Lebanese project partners are NDU; Lebanese University; University of Balamand; and Beirut Arab University (BAU). This project was launched in March 2016 in Ploieşti and two workshops have already been held in Ploieşti and Ecole des Mines de Saint-Étienne.

The project objective is to develop an M.S. program curriculum by utilizing the expertise of European universities in the fields of drilling and exploration of oil and gas wells, oil-refining techniques, and storage of oil. This project includes capacity building activities for students and the teachers/instructors who are prepared to teach the M.S. program courses.
