On December 18, 2025, the Faculty of Law and Political Science (FLPS) in collaboration with the Department of Alumni Affairs, organized its first alumni Meet & Greet event titled “Shaping the Future of Law at FLPS”, gathering alumni, academics and leading figures of the legal profession, and inaugurating the new FLPS Moot Court with a special recognition to the student who designed it.
The event kicked off in the presence of Fr. Bechara Khoury, NDU President; Me Imad Martinos, President of the Beirut Bar Association; members of the BBA; lawyer, writer and critic Alexandre Najjar; MP Dr. Antoine Habchi; Dr. Michel El Hayek, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Najib Metni, Vice President for University Advancement; Dr. Antoine Farhat, Advisor to the President for Presidential Affairs; Dr. Pierre El Khoury, Dean of the FLPS; Dr. Karen BouJaoude, Dean of the Ramez G. Chagoury Faculty of Architecture, Arts, and Design (FAAD); Majed Bou Hadir, Director of the Office of Public Affairs and Protocol; Alain Abou Jaoude, Director of the Office of Alumni Affairs; in addition to NDU staff and faculty.
Dr. El Khoury first addressed the audience, describing the FLPS as a space that nurtures critical thinking and develops a sense of justice, adding: “Within this framework, the integration between faculties of law and the Bar Institute is not merely an administrative form of coordination, but rather a structural choice aimed at preparing a competent lawyer”. Announcing the Moot Court inauguration, Dr. El Khoury stated: “it provides an educational space that moves students from passive learning to active simulation, from knowledge to practice, and from rules to independent reasoning.”
Next, Fr. Khoury delivered a speech in which he mentioned the potential of NDU students, particularly at the level of the FLPS.
“At NDU, we believe our students should be able to build strong, meaningful careers without feeling compelled to leave their country. This conviction is what drove our collaboration with the Beirut Bar Association on the Moot Court initiative, one designed to bridge academic learning with real professional practice. Today’s alumni gathering is part of that same vision: staying connected with our graduates and engaging them in the University’s ongoing growth, achievements, and future direction,” he stated.
Me Martinos was then invited to the stage, where he delivered an address in which he discussed the importance of constant collaboration between local associations and organizations. In his speech, he gave particular significance to the positive impact generated by following up academic curricula at institutions like NDU, arguing that such advancements nurture a sense of integrity among the youth and drive a work culture built on ethics.
After offering Me Martinos an appreciation trophy for his support and collaboration, Fr. Khoury invited guests to the Moot Court Room inauguration. Following an inter-faculty competition, interior design student Hanady Estephan was recognized for her design of this first edition of the court room. Estephan briefly explained the idea behind her winning design to the audience, later leaving the stage for Dr. El Khoury, who expressed gratitude to the FAAD and to the supervising faculty members for their tremendous efforts.
Concluding the ceremony, the Father President and Dr. El Khoury led a recognition segment during which they awarded trophies to the sponsors who assisted in the development of the Moor Court. The event then concluded with an informal gathering, offering attendees an opportunity for conversation and networking.
