Beirut, LB (March 23, 2017) – Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) hosted on Thursday, March 23, at 7.30 p.m., in Issam Fares Hall, NDU main campus, the premiere of Kalimera Men Beirut, a documentary film by George Eid. Held under the auspices of the Lebanese Minister of Culture Ghattas Khoury and the Greek Ambassador to Lebanon Theodore Passas, the premiere attracted diplomatic, political, and media figures, and also featured a special appearance by Lebanese-Greek singer Kassiani Kaplanis as well as a wonderful performance by the Greek Club of Beirut dance group. MTV’s Walid Abboud introduced the documentary while journalist Rana Richa hosted the premiere. Abboud spoke about the importance of revealing many of the forgotten facts about Lebanon’s history. He also stressed on the importance of the documents and photos featured in the documentary.
The 34-minute long documentary, which was screened in Full HD format, reveals the untold story of the Greeks who fled to Lebanon as refugees in 1922 and tracks their existence and their lives in Lebanon, both before and after the Lebanese civil war.
George Eid in his speech revealed the message behind the Kalimera Men Beirut, stating, “I want to revive the Golden Age of Lebanon. I want people to remember the time when this nation was still the land of opportunity for Lebanese, Greeks, and many minorities.”
Eid also announced that the documentary would be aired on MTV Lebanon on March 25, 2017, at 10:45 p.m., and also he revealed that ERT TV in Greece had shown interest to broadcast the Greek subtitled documentary. He also noted that he would be traveling to Greece for a special preview of the documentary organized by the Lebanese embassy in Athens. Finally, Eid thanked all journalists and media partners who helped in disseminating the message behind the documentary.
