The Department of Architecture at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) Ramez G. Chagoury Faculty of Art Architecture and Design (FAAD) joined Faculties of Architecture across the country for the conference organized by the Order of Engineers and Architects Beirut (OEA) and the Chaderji Foundation for Architecture and Society, with the support of the “Fondation de France”.
The conference was the highlight of 8 months of work and contribution to the development of the Beirut Urban Declaration (BUD), a manifesto formulating a vision and a road map to the reconstruction of Beirut’s port and damaged areas in the wake of August fourth blast.
Dr.Karen Bou Jaoudeh, Chairperson of the Department of Architecture and Associate Professor at the FAAD, Dr. Maroun Kassab, Coordinator of the Department of Architecture and Assistant Professor at the FAAD, Dr. Hani Zgheib, Assistant Professor at the FAAD, and Layla Jabbour, Senior Lecturer at the FAAD, all attended and presented their contributions.
Jabbour is one of the main founding members to the BUD, and has been actively involved in following and chairing axis 5 of the BUD covering the Management and organization of planning and Reconstruction and the Urban Observatory for the past 8 months. She participated in the formulation of the final recommendations of this Manifesto which will soon be published by the OEA and the “Fondation de France”.
Dr. Zgheib has contributed to the foundation and recommendations of Axis 1 of the BUD covering the History and identity of the City, and moderated the first two sessions and the panel discussion.
Dr. Bou Jaoudeh has contributed to axis 5 of the BUD covering the Management and organization of planning and Reconstruction and the Urban Observatory, where she presented an intervention titled "Towards a Sustainable Disaster Recovery Plan".
Dr. Kassab has contributed to Axis 3 of the BUD covering the comprehensive approach for the rehabilitation of the Destroyed Area.
