The POS 225 class, “Politics of Catholic Social Theory” held an informal event celebrating the 125th anniversary of Rerum Novarum on May 16th 2016.
During this event, the students presented their work on Catholic social thinking and Catholic social leaders in Latin American, the US, Asia, and the Middle East. The presentations were followed by a buffet of specialties prepared by the students themselves and a screening of “Entertaining Angels: The Dorothy Day Story”.
POS 225 class members presented a memento to President Fr. Walid Moussa as a small token of their appreciation of the university’s contribution to Catholic social teaching.
The artwork was created by the class, together with Arcenciel, out of recycled material symbolizing the mission of Catholic social teaching in the MENA region.
The event came in line with three important happenings; the 125th anniversary of the encyclical Rerum Novarum, the feast of Pentecost, and the coincidental birthday of Patriarch Boutros Sfeir.
The POS 225 class was set up 3 years ago at the request of the president of the university with the idea that issues related to social justice and Catholicism should not be exclusively taught in theology classes but should be mainstreamed.
