5TH VEX ROBOTICS LAUNCHING EVENT

The Faculty of Engineering (FE) at the Notre Dame University- Louaize (NDU), in collaboration with TechnoFuture Lebanon, launched on October 7, 2017, the "5th VEX Robotics Lebanon Competition."

Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering at NDU Dr. Najib Metni took the podium to discuss VEX’s significance, as it directly aims to help students designing and building a robot to learn a variety of lifelong skills, including teamwork, leadership, and communication. He also asked everyone to inspire and encourage the future generations of engineers and entrepreneurs to become future innovators.

For his part, FE Dean at NDU Dr. Michel Hayek stressed the importance of exposing students to new opportunities to help them practice their skills. He also highlighted the main objectives of the competition, which are to increase student interest and involvement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and to encourage them to stretch their imagination by creating a fully-functional robot and competing anywhere, nationally, regionally, and internationally.

Event Coordinator Fadi el-Darwich explained the field setup, competition process, scoring objects, and game description. The VEX Robotics Competition is played on a 4’x8’ rectangular field. Two robots compete in matches consisting of a 60-second autonomous period to score as many points as possible, without any driver inputs.

Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) VEX Robotics 2016-17 winners passed on their experience to all the new participants.

NDU will be hosting on March 2018 the brightest minds from elementary middle, and high schools as well as university students to compete in a massive contest that will focus on teamwork, hard work, and commitment. The winning teams (one from each division) will eligible to participate in the international competition.

The #NDUVEX2018 competition is back! Stay tuned…
