The NDU Libraries at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) are honored to host a commemorative cultural event entitled "Loyalty Speaks: Said Akl in the Heart, Conscience, and Mind" on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Issam Fares Conference Hall.

This special ceremony celebrates the enduring legacy of the Lebanese literary giant, Said Akl, whose poetry and thought have shaped generations. The program offers a multisensory homage to his life and work, blending words, music, film, and movement in a tribute that reflects the depth and beauty of his influence.

The event will begin with the Lebanese National Anthem performed by the NDU Choir, followed by opening remarks from Majed Bou Hadir, Master of Ceremonies and Director of the Office of Public Affairs and Protocol, and a welcoming address by Reverend Father Bechara Khoury, President of NDU.

Highlights of the program include:

  • A musical chant by Carla Ramia
  • Reflections from Marie-Rose Amidi
  • A short documentary film on the life and poetic journey of Said Akl
  • A performance inspired by his poetry, choreographed and performed by Pierre Geagea, accompanied by a live recitation from acclaimed poet Nizar Francis
  • A closing performance of the NDU Anthem by the NDU Choir

This event is a testament to NDU’s commitment to preserving Lebanese cultural heritage and honoring the voices that have shaped our national identity.
