Under the Auspices of P. M. Siniora:
The Lebanese Migrants in Brazil: Exhibition and Book-Signing

Under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Fuad Siniora, Prime Minister of Lebanon, the Lebanese Emigration Research Center (LERC) inaugurated an exhibition entitled The Lebanese Migrants in Brazil that took place on Wednesday, December 14th, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. in the Museum of Notre Dame University, Zouk Mosbeh.

The exhibition contained portraits, photos, documents, and artifacts from the collection of Roberto Khatlab, the Lebanese National Archive, and the Lebanese Emigration Research Center. The exhibition was concurrent with the release of Roberto Khatlab’s book Lebanese Migrants in Brazil: An Annotated Bibliography.

The book acts an information resource for those interested in Lebanese migration or comparative research in migration studies. It brings together work from a variety of disciplines, including history, sociology, ethnology, political science, media, economics, poetry and literature.

The book begins with an introduction by Dr. Oswaldo Truzzi on the history of the Lebanese emigration to Brazil, followed by over 500 titles, references, addresses, films and documentary titles, agreements, associations, archives, streets, and Internet Uniform Resource Locators (URL), among other references, all being sources relevant to a comprehensive study on Lebanese migration to Brazil.

This book is the result of the cooperative efforts between the Lebanese Emigration Research Center and Mr. Khatlab, who is serving his second year as Associate Researcher at the Center and has several published books to his name.

The aim of this book is to facilitate the work of researchers and interested individuals, especially as the history of Lebanese migration to Brazil is filled with successes and contributions in the political, economic, social and artistic fields.

Lebanese Migrants in Brazil: An Annotated Bibliography is the second book in a series of bibliographies to be published by LERC, the first of which was Lebanese Migrants in Australia and New Zealand: An Annotated Bibliography, published in 2004.

Both the book and the exhibition pay tribute to all the Lebanese emigrants in Brazil, in other countries and to migrants throughout the world, who had the courage to traverse the seas and transcend cultural barriers to fulfill their aspirations.
