Nadejda (Nadia) Marinova, MA, PhD Candidate

Ms. Nadejda (Nadia) Marinova is a Research Affiliate with the Lebanese Emigration Research Center, and a Ph.D. candidate in Politics and International Relations at the Univ. of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, CA. At LERC, she is conducting research for her dissertation, entitled, House of Lebanon: Political Mobilization of the US-based Lebanese Diaspora. She is a Berkes fellow and the recipient of the 2008 College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Dissertation Field Research Award of the Univ. of Southern California.

Ms. Marinova's research interests include Middle East politics, diaspora and international migration, as well as the intersection of culture and global society. Her dissertation addresses the question of why the US- based Lebanese diaspora is active to such a high extent in mobilizing to affect politics in the host and home countries. The research focuses on the institutions of Lebanese-Americans in the United States, seeking to explain their activity and motivation for connection to the original homeland, as well as their activities directed at lobbying US foreign policy towards Lebanon.

Ms. Marinova holds an M.S. in International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a BA (magna cum laude) in Political Science from Georgia College and State Univ. She is a lifetime member of Phi Kappa Phi and a fellow of the USC Center for Excellence in Teaching, and has been the recipient fellowships from the Kennedy Foundation, the USC Center for International Studies and School of International Relations, as well as Rotary International.
