Conference Messages

Note by the Faculty Dean

It is with great pride and anticipation that we welcome you to the seventh edition of the City Street Conference, hosted by the Ramez G. Chagoury Faculty of Architecture, Art, and Design (FAAD) at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU), Lebanon.

This biennial, multidisciplinary international event has grown into a leading platform for dialogue and collaboration among professionals, scholars, and policymakers dedicated to shaping the future of our urban environments. Under the theme “Flexible City Streets: Future Challenges and Smart Adaptations,” the conference will explore the evolving role of streets as responsive and adaptive spaces—places that not only facilitate movement but also foster vibrant, resilient, and inclusive urban life.

At a time when cities worldwide face mounting pressures—from climate change to rapid urbanization and technological disruption—the conversations we cultivate during this conference are more critical than ever. We are honored to bring together leading voices from architecture, urban planning, engineering, public health, economics, legislation, and beyond, to exchange knowledge and co-develop innovative strategies that will shape streets and cities for generations to come.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to our organizing committee, keynote speakers, contributors, and participants for making this conference possible. We look forward to thought-provoking discussions, meaningful connections, and shared commitments to building adaptable and intelligent urban futures.

Note by the Conference Chair

The City Street 7 International Conference invites you to join a vital global conversation on the future of streets. As technological, environmental, and social changes accelerate, our streets must evolve beyond their traditional roles to become dynamic, adaptable, and inclusive spaces.

The chosen theme, Flexible City Streets: Future Challenges and Smart Adaptations, reflects the urgency of rethinking how streets can support the diverse and rapidly shifting needs of urban life. CS7-2026 will bring together a multidisciplinary network of professionals and academics from around the world—urban planners, architects, engineers, public health experts, economists, policymakers, and government representatives—to exchange knowledge and strategies.

As cities face climate change, demographic shifts, digital disruption, and new mobility patterns, this conference will highlight how streets can serve as more than infrastructure. From climate-resilient design to data-driven planning and equitable policy frameworks, CS7-2026 seeks to inspire action for building future-ready urban environments.

Importantly, the conference emphasizes inclusive governance and community engagement. Streets must be co-created with their users, ensuring they remain places of connection, safety, sustainability, and opportunity.

We look forward to welcoming you to a conference that leads the way in shaping flexible, resilient, and human-centered urban streets.

Note by the North Lebanon Campus Director

Hosting City Street 7 at NDU is not just an academic milestone—it is a chance to extend its vision to all branches, including the North Campus. While the core activities will take place at the Main Campus, the impact of CS7 is meant to resonate far and wide.

For the North Campus, CS7 represents an opportunity to engage with new ideas about urban identity and community-centered design. If outreach initiatives, visits, or collaborations are planned, they could highlight the urban fabric of Northern Lebanon and open meaningful dialogue about how our campus interacts with its surroundings.

The North has a unique relationship with its city and public spaces. By participating in CS7, we reaffirm our role in shaping inclusive, human-centered environments while fostering long-term research, dialogue, and collaboration. Above all, the conference inspires us to look at our everyday streets and spaces with fresh eyes—an essential first step toward reimagining the future.

Note by the Shouf Campus Director

At the NDU Shouf Campus, we embrace an interdisciplinary vision that bridges design innovation, environmental responsibility, and technological integration—values that align closely with the themes of CS7.

Our participation reflects a commitment to reimagining city streets as dynamic, inclusive, and resilient public spaces. Through collaborations across architecture, urban design, and visual communication, we explore how smart mobility, climate-adaptive infrastructure, and digital placemaking can transform streets into flexible, human-centered environments.

For us, streets are not only about movement but also about fostering community well-being, cultural expression, and ecological balance. In joining CS7, we affirm our dedication to shaping future-ready urban landscapes that are technologically advanced, socially inclusive, and environmentally conscious.
