Conference Overview

Theme

The theme of CS7 focuses on the critical challenges and opportunities involved in integrating evolving knowledge, experiences, and innovations surrounding the concept of streets. Streets today represent a new paradigm in urban planning and design, where the convergence of physical infrastructure and digital technologies creates smart, adaptive, and resilient environments capable of meeting the demands of 21st-century urban life.

As cities worldwide undergo rapid transformation driven by climate change, shifting mobility patterns, and technological advancements, the need for flexible and functional street solutions has never been greater. CS7 emphasizes reimagining streets as dynamic systems that respond to evolving user needs, environmental conditions, and social expectations.

To foster this transformation, the conference will:

  • Promote multidisciplinary discussion by bringing together academics, practitioners, policymakers, and public sector stakeholders from fields such as architecture, urban planning, transport planning, public health, economics, and governance.
  • Encourage resilient urban development by exploring solutions and research agendas that enable streets to withstand climate change, environmental stress, and demographic shifts.
  • Promote smart and adaptive urban strategies through the use of data-driven tools, emerging technologies, and adaptive planning frameworks.
  • Highlight sustainable mobility solutions in response to changing urban movement patterns, promoting efficient, equitable, and environmentally responsible transport systems.
  • Advance context-sensitive design by addressing the challenges of retrofitting historic and culturally significant streetscapes.

Presentations will explore topics such as modular street design, real-time traffic and mobility management, climate-responsive infrastructure, and inclusive, multi-functional public spaces. The conference will also:

  • Bridge policy and practice by facilitating the development of implementable policies rooted in collaboration between academia and public institutions.
  • Examine economic and risk management models that support sustainable investment and operational efficiency in street-level projects.
  • Strengthen regional and global collaboration by positioning Lebanon and the wider region within international discussions on urban innovation.

Through this comprehensive, interdisciplinary platform, CS7 aims to spark new ideas, forge lasting collaborations, and contribute to a shared vision of streets as future-ready, intelligent, and equitable components of urban ecosystems.
