The Department of Accounting and Finance-Faculty of Business Administration and Economics (FBAE) at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) was proud to organize for the third consecutive year the “Virtual Stock Exchange Competition” (VSE) sponsored by BLOMINVEST Bank.
This competition aims to grant finance students the opportunity to put theory into practice, develop their trading skills, and build well-performing equity and options portfolios. Students rely heavily on the solid academic background they acquire in classrooms, but they also develop practical abilities through learning on their own technical models like the chartists analysis.
One hundred students participated in the competition and were guided to apply a combination of theories to manage their portfolios, using one million dollars of virtual currency with a one million dollar margin.
The first screening was based on the total portfolio yield, the Sharpe ratio, and the number of trades made. A joint jury of Department of Accounting and Finance and Faculty representatives comprised of FBAE Interim Dean Dr. Viviane Naimy and Virtual Stock Exchange Competition Mentor Dr. Etienne Gebran-Harb, as well as BLOMINVEST BANK representatives, Head of Investor Relations Alexandre Mouradian, Senior Portfolio Manager Kabalan Farah, and Trading Manager Richard Elia, conducted the second screening and selected the best three participants, based on the portfolio return, the content of the presentation, the strategy used, and presentation skills.
The best three participants respectively were: Wael Tayar, Ryan Jabbour and Emile Dagher. BLOMINVEST BANK offered the winners prizes of US$2,000, US$1,500, and US$1,000 respectively.
Five contestants – the three top-performers, Katia Amatoury, and Marianne Boulos – will participate in the National Edition of the VSE in October 2019.
