PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE INSIDE OUT

PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE INSIDE OUT

The internet is our window to the world, and since today your window is the main opening to the world outside, let’s all share the view online!

1. IDEA

The idea is simple: pick up your phone and take a photograph from your window. But there are infinite ways to take that shot. Do you want to show the inside and the outside in one photo? Do you want to have the window frame only? Do you want to shoot it in the morning or at night? Do you want to look at the building across the street, down at the road, or at the sky? Is there a story you want to tell? Is there something happening that you want to capture?

2. COMPOSITION

Interesting photographs usually have many compositional elements in them. There is no need to have them all but consider at least one from the following list: Camera height, Angle of view, Foreground/Background, Contrast, Color, Movement, Patterns.

3. LIGHT

Although you don’t have control over the natural light, you still have the choice to take your photograph at different times of the day. If your view is a street or the building across, try to capture the moment when the sun hits them because it will create interesting shadows and the texture of the building/street will pop. If your view is a landscape or seascape, it’s better to wait for the golden hours, around sunrise and sunset. If you’re planning to integrate the inside, consider turning on the lights and avoid shooting when the light outside is too strong.

4. FORMAT

Choose the square format on your phone in order to avoid any cropping. If you find it hard because you’re not used to this format, try move closer and farther from the window to find your desired framing.

5. EXPERIMENT

Remember that Photography is art and like any artistic medium, it requires many attempts. Experiment as much as you want, until you achieve the photo you have in mind. It’s a matter of trial and error. It’s normal if the first few shots are not good enough. Keep trying!

6. EDIT

If you took your photo in good lighting conditions, you might not need extensive editing. You can use your phone editing software to tweak the image. But if you would like to do further editing it is recommended to download Adobe Lightroom on your mobile or Computer. It is a very user-friendly software that will significantly enhance your photos.

7. SHARE
