Shaping the Future of Sport

We are one of the few academic think tanks in the world dedicated exclusively to global sport policy and governance—and the only one that produces research-based indices assessing how all countries perform in, participate in, and leverage sport as a tool for development and diplomacy.

Based at NDU, the ICSPG is committed to advancing global sport policy through innovative research and internationally recognized measurement tools. We provide data-driven insights that empower decision-makers—from Olympic committees and governments to universities and NGOs—to design more effective policies for elite performance, national fitness, and sport-driven soft power.

What We Do

We measure what matters in global sport. ICSPG publishes four authoritative rankings that evaluate how countries perform, invest, and use sport strategically.

Elite Sports Performance (WRCES): Tracks how 200 + countries perform in major international competitions.

WRCES Merit Ranking (Performance vs. Economy): Compares each nation’s sporting success to the size of its economy (GDP).

World Fittest Countries’ Ranking (WFCR): Measures how fit and active populations are around the world.

World Sport Power Index (WSPI)
: Ranks how effectively nations leverage sporting success to gain global influence.

WhY It Matters

ICSPG exists to fill a critical gap in global sport governance: the lack of objective, comparative, and academically validated metrics for evaluating national performance in sport. Our indices help:

1. Governments and ministries set informed sports policies.

2. Universities and researchers ground their work in empirical data.

3. Federations and Olympic committees benchmark and plan strategically.

4. The international community better understand sport as a development and diplomacy tool.
