Keynote Speakers

Professor Ameen Albert Rihani

Writer, Critic, and Researcher. Prof. Rihani held a key position at Notre Dame University as Vice President of Academic Affairs. He also is author of several articles and books on various subjects in Arabic and English and is curator of the Ameen Fares Rihani’s Museum, Freike. He will be talking about his latest book on the various translations of the Bible.

 

Dr. William Davis

Associate Professor of Comparative Literature and German at Colorado College, USA: Dr. Davis’ scholarship focuses largely on the Romantic period, with emphasis on relations between German and British Romanticism, as well as on connections between philosophy and literature. He has also published on issues of literary theory and currently works on connections between technology and cultural production.

Francesco Medici

Literary Critic and Translator: Mr. Medici is one of the leading experts and translators in Italy of Gibran’s work, as well as author of numerous critical interventions on other eminent Arab writers who emigrated to the US between the nineteenth and the twentieth century, in particular Mikhail Naimy, Elia Abu Madi, and Ameen Rihani.

Venue

The conference will be held from March 22 till 23, 2023 at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) in Zouk Mosbeh, a city approximately 20 km north of Beirut, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. NDU’s location has the added bonus of being situated near the Jeita Grotto and the historical city of Byblos, modern day Jbeil. The International Conference thus provides an attractive center from which to explore Lebanon’s natural and touristic sites, pleasant climate, warm hospitality, and cultural scenes.
