Ziad Mikhael Akl

Ziad Mikhael Akl graduated in 2003 from NDU with an MA in International Public Law and an MA in Public Administration in 2005.

Today, he heads of Youth Association for Social Awareness (YASA) group, a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 1996 in Lebanon. He launched in 1994 an awareness campaign, which aims to promote road safety and injury prevention, following the tragic death of Tarek Assi, a 19-year-old university student.

In 2001, YASA International began participating in and organizing international events and programs aimed at raising road safety awareness. He founded another non-profit NGO, which defends safety rights, raises public awareness, and advocates sustainable development.

His two theses at NDU helped him hone his leadership skills by combining research and practical implementation. He has authored several books and written many articles on road safety and injury prevention, media, and advocacy.

After graduating from NDU, he also earned three master’s degrees in Comparative Law, International Affairs and Diplomacy, and Public Health. He later earned a Ph.D. in Health Sciences. A member of the Beirut Bar Association, he is currently a practicing attorney and an active member in several international legal associations.
