Overview of renewable energy resources: key figures, energy extraction, global installed capacity and current trends. Wind turbine generating systems: energy conversion process, rotor power coefficient and Betz limit, power curve, wind generators, statistics and resources, environmental impact and economics. Photovoltaic energy systems: types and applications, main components, peak-power trackers, estimation of energy production, module/ inverter selection, voltage drop and wiring as per NEC. Fundamentals of smart grids: architecture, innovative monitoring solutions and sensing devices, demand response and management systems. Prerequisite: EEN 350.
