Engineering Biomechanics - MEN 508

Overview of the structure and mechanics of the musculoskeletal system with an emphasis on human gait. Use of the concepts of mechanical engineering along with the anatomical and anthropometric parameters to understand the mechanics of the musculoskeletal components under static/dynamic loading. Modeling of the bones, tendons, cartilage and muscles using composite material homogenization and viscoelastic theories. The function of joints and artificial joints will be discussed as well as emerging new technologies in the biomechanics field. Prerequisite: MEN 200. Corequisite: MEN 430
