Prof. Ali Alraouf
Prof. Ali Alraouf is an architect, urban designer, planner, critic, writer, and professor with thirty-nine years of academic, research, and consulting experience. He has served as Head of the Department of Architecture at the University of Science and Arts and as Coordinator of the Urban Design and Planning Program at Qatar University.
His research explores vibrant public spaces, human-centered urbanism, museums’ architecture, contemporary Gulf cities, knowledge and creative cities, post-oil urbanism, and the cultural value of architectural and urban heritage.
Prof. Alraouf has received numerous regional and international awards in architecture, urban design, teaching, and scientific research. He has published more than 165 research papers, articles, essays, and technical reports in international conferences, journals, and periodicals. He has also been invited to lecture and present his work at universities, architectural associations, and research centers in more than 40 countries.
He is the co-author of several books in Arabic and English and the sole author of multiple award-winning books. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and was recently appointed Senior Professor Fellow at St. Petersburg University.
Currently, Prof. Alraouf serves as Head of the Urban Lab and Design Studio (Studio 18), R&D Senior Advisor for Qatar’s Urban Planning Department, Adjunct Professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and a board member of the International Society of City Planners.
