The World Press Photo is a non-profit organization founded in 1955 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is renowned for organizing the world's largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest. Winning photographs are exhibited in some 45 countries and visited by over two million people. “The World Press Photo is also deeply concerned with stimulating developments in photojournalism and encouraging transfer of knowledge by organizing the annual Joop Swart Masterclass as well as seminars, workshops, and other educational projects all over the world.” (from the World Press Photo website www.worldpressphoto.org).
