A series of four seminars by Mr. Nahed Khairallah are taking place every Tuesday from 12:00-1:00 pm at NDU-SC.
They started on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 and will go on till Tuesday, May 11, 2010. The issues to be discussed are:
- How to write a professional resume
- How to write professional business letters for the job search
- Job search techniques: exploring the world of work and finding your career
- How to interview for success.
Although many of these issues are taught and discussed in ENL 230 (English in the Workplace), more of a good thing is always good!

The first lecture of April 20, 2010: How to Write a Professional Resume

Mr. Khairallah explained that the main focus of the Professional Resume Writing seminar was content as opposed to format. Your resume is your marketing tool! Differentiating it from other applicants’ resumes and highlighting your skills and capabilities is key.
The resume should mention your accomplishments on each and every job as opposed to job descriptions. Employers are interested in what improvements you can bring to their business and not simply what you know how to do.
In addition, it is imperative you include specific accomplishments instead of general ones. For example, instead of saying “Developed a software tool that decreased processing time”, use something like “Developed a software tool that decreased order processing time by 30%.” Finally, make sure you proofread your resume and correct any grammatical or spelling errors.
