What are we doing to planet Earth, our “HOME”?
As the Climate Conference 2009 heats up in Copenhagen, the Sciences Division at the Shouf Campus complies by showing the documentary "Home", a warning tale about what we have done to our Earth, and what we can do to reverse the total collapse of our climatic ecosystem.
The documentary was preceded by an introduction by Dr. Amer Fayyad who incited the audience to think about the issues and problems raised in the film.
Featuring spectacular footage and areal shots from more than 120 locations in fifty-four countries, the film allows us to see the miracle of nature and the stunning landscapes that have existed for millions of years. However, the movie also shows the mass destruction we have inflicted on Mother Nature over the past fifty years, jeopardizing everything we love about the place we call "home".
The film explains the scary extent that the demographic increase and the reckless exploitation of water, oil and other resources have contributed to the weakening of our nature and the rise of global warming.
The film ends on a note of hope about what we can still do to save our “home”. "It is too late to be a pessimist" says the narrator, as the documentary shows what is being done nowadays to combat and reverse the effects of global warming in terms of renewable energy and the creation of more national parks.
