The Eye and Hand of Educational Leaders: Teachers, Coordinators, and Heads of Departments – a workshop for school educators to enhance their leadership skills.
Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) Department of Psychology, Education and Physical Education at the Faculty of Humanities (FH) organized a workshop entitled “The Eye and Hand of Educational Leaders: Teachers, Coordinators, and Heads of Departments” on November 7, 2018, during which 96 teachers and school administrators attended the workshop.
For his part, FH Dean Dr. Kamal AbouChedid welcomed the participants, as did the Department Chair, Father Joseph Tannous, sharing the mission of the Faculty and Department in serving the community through the department workshops, the diverse Teaching Diploma Programs, and the MA Programs with concentrations in Special Education, Educational Technology, and School Management and Educational Leadership
Drs. Harvey Oueijan, Maha Mouchantaf, and Toni Kopali, the workshop tutors, discussed how teachers are educational leaders, serving not only the learners in a classroom but the school community as a whole. The purpose of the workshop was twofold: (1) to identify leadership qualities educators should have or already have and (2) to demonstrate, through hands-on activities, leadership roles to become models in the classroom. Touching on the teacher of the past and the present and formal and informal leadership, they discussed what is needed to become a teacher leader using the REACH model and goal setting. They also discussed the many roles of a teacher leader. Throughout the workshop, the participants took notes and carried out activities to create a definition of a teacher leader. The tutors closed the session with a definition of a Teacher Leader.
The Education Outreach Committee will be organizing workshops throughout the Academic year to cater to School and University Educators’ needs to enhance pro-active teaching and learning models in the classroom. The Department cordially invites you to join the workshops when they are announced.
