SEMINAR ON “CAN YOU SURVIVE YOUR OWN FUTURE?”

November 27, 2018 – The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics (FBAE) at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU), Shouf Campus, organized a seminar entitled “Can You Survive Your Own Future.” The guest speaker was  Dr. Kathy Shalhoub who is an author and a certified coach with a wealth of experience in both technical and artistic endeavors. Dr. Shalhoub holds a Ph.D. from MIT with her areas of study in creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Her writings focus on future surviving and career development.

Dr. Shalhoub started her presentation by highlighting the change in the professional landscape due to automation and outsourcing activities and the lack in educating youth on how to handle this change. It is important to help youth make choices based on who they really are and what the world is looking for.

In her talk, Dr. Kathy covers 13 key things that youth should know as they wrap up their education and move into the real world. Some key points were: 1- Yesterday’s solution is today’s problem: the fact is that industrialization and technology have created a world where it is harder and harder to compete with automation and outsourcing. 2- Don't pick a career, design a life! Why? Because careers are transforming, being created and going extinct faster and faster, but we do have is the ability to develop skills that can be transferred to any career we chose to step into. The greatest asset you have is your humanity. Don’t ignore it! 3- Get Creative: One of the most powerful weapons we have against automation is our ability to create and innovate. Creativity is a muscle and we are all capable of developing. The sooner you start, the better off you’ll be. And research shows that creative people in business are some of the most in demand employees today.

Faculty and staff members as well as students from various faculties attended the seminar and provided positive feedback of the event. All the attendees were drawn in by Dr. Shalhoub’s distinctive and unforgettable presentation through a highly interactive atmosphere. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Shalhoub expressed her gratitude for being invited to and warmly welcomed at NDU-SC.
