The Lebanese Unileague Championship, which took place from October till May, is the Major League Futsal in which some of the top universities in Lebanon battle to win. In the following interview, Rabih Dib (coach) gave us a glimpse into the spirit of the NDU Futsal Team.

What challenges did you face during, and while, practicing for the league?
We faced many challenges and difficulties. To start with, most of our players play in the Lebanese leagues, so we have match schedule conflicts and several injuries, which force us to play without some of our players. Another challenge we face is that some of our players work for a living, and their work schedules oftentimes clash with training days. Another difficulty is that we do not have an authorized futsal field in the area.

What would a typical training program look like?

Even though it is tough to achieve, the typical training program would start in summer and comprise of three training sessions per week, which is enough to fully prepare us for the futsal season.

What requirements does a student need to play in the NDU Futsal Team?

Good playing skills, a strong team spirit, and discipline.

Does the team play outside Lebanon?
Last year, our team participated in the EUROValencia tournament. We got close to playing in the final, but we ended up ranking third among eight European universities.

Is there anything you would like to say to your team?
I would like them to know that I am extremely proud of them. We achieved a lot from nothing. While other universities actively search for players and offer them scholarships, we, at NDU, are also trying our best to offer our players more discounts. My players play their hearts out for NDU; they never spare a drop of sweat for the team.
