Maria Abdel Karim, independent filmmaker, graduated from NDU in 2012 with a B.A. in Communication Art in Radio, TV and Film, with an emphasis in script-writing and directing. Maria has been selected to participate in the Malmo Arab Film Festival Funding program for the short film category and will be traveling between the September 30, 2016, and October 4, 2016, to Malmo, Sweden, to pitch her film idea in front of the jury that will choose the movie to receive the funding award.
Maria was one of the seven directors of the Lebanese feature film Waynon (VOID); the movie was funded by NDU and was selected as the official submission to the Oscars in February 2016.
The Malmo Arab Film Festival program in partnership with the NDU International Film Festival funds short films in their development phase. This program annually chooses five short films from around the world and awards the winning movie with funds to help in developing it.
