FOOD SAFETY WORKSHOP AT RAYAK AIR BASE

Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences (FNHS) at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) Assistant Professor Dr. Layal Karam was recently invited to deliver a workshop at the Rayak Air Base on “Food Safety in Lebanon and New Food Product Development.”

This workshop is part of an annual three-day camp titled, “Train the Trainer,” organized by the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) for the children of its military personnel. Event participants were volunteer trainers from different backgrounds, such as experienced professionals (teachers, bankers, etc.) and university students (studying medicine, business, etc.).

The objectives of Train the Trainer is to enhance trainers’ leadership qualities, teamwork, knowledge, and overall skills on various topics. As such, different speakers took turns at delivering presentations, such as  Lebanese Red Cross President Dr. Antoine Zoghbi, LBCI Host Yazbeck Wehbe, and LAF officers, among others.

Dr. Karam presented the importance of food safety in Lebanon and how to develop new food products. A competition followed where students were asked to work in teams to propose an innovative idea for a food product. Following a jury evaluation, the winning team was awarded a symbolic prize.
