Leila El-Solh Hamadeh, the vice-president of Al-Waleed Bin Talal Foundation, the first Lebanese woman to hold a cabinet position as Industry Minister in Prime Minister Omar Karami‘s Government in 2004, will be the Guest Speaker at Notre Dame University - Louaize’s 19th Commencement on Friday, July 10, 2009. Mrs. El-Solh Hamadeh will join President of NDU, Fr. Walid Moussa to congratulate the Class of 2009. In his statement, President Moussa said that Mrs. El-Solh Hamadeh is an inspiring role model for our graduating class. She embodies the vibrancy and confidence of the perfect archetype of the Lebanese woman.
Leila El-Solh Hamadeh was born in Beirut. She is the youngest daughter of the late former Prime Minister Riyadh El-Solh, Lebanese leader of independence and Prince AlWaleed’s grandfather and she is the widow of the former minister Majed Hamadeh.
Mrs. El-Solh Hamadeh is the vice-president of the AlWaleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation which was set up on July 19, 2003. In a very short time, Mrs. Hamadeh, managed through, the Foundation, to extend humanitarian support to many of the areas in Lebanon. She also initiated a large number of development projects to fight poverty, promote education and encourage tolerance among the different religious faiths and social groups.
