Message from the President

Welcome to the web site of Notre Dame University (NDU), Lebanon. I am very pleased to inform you that what you read in these electronic pages has been lately reviewed and updated, and it will be appraised on regular bases. I expect that you will come across whatever information you look for about NDU. The team behind this web site has been working steadily and hardly, not only to make our home page look more attractive but also, and mainly, to enrich it with more necessary information reflecting the growing academic development at NDU for the last couple of years.

The first decade of the twenty first century has witnessed serious challenges locally, regionally, and internationally. These challenges are interrelated and complicated in such a way that it becomes difficult to solve the present puzzle by attempting to resolve the economic depression exclusively or the political instability by itself or the cultural dialogue/clash on its own. Higher education today is expected, more than ever before, to find the proper and healthy links between these three poles around the world. Universities became the centers of intellectual exercises and further research and significant creative thinking in order to address such local and global concerns.

At a time when technology is growing steady fast and linking together the whole world, people around this planet are still suffering from regional wars and local severe conflicts. We did not learn so far to solve our problems using the power of the mind rather than the power of arms. As if we all admit, in spite all the advancements, that material power still prevails mental power. This is where the role of higher education becomes more significant and more needed than ever before.

NDU is entitled, within this framework, to enhance the significance of knowledge and the role of knowledge in the world of today. NDU is called to highlight its commitment to discover, transmit, and produce knowledge. I hope our website is attractive and substantial enough in order to invite the reader to join us, as a student, parent, faculty member, or alumnus.

Rev. Fr. Walid Moussa, S.T.D.
