Configure Wireless Connection on MS Windows XP Systems

WIRELESS STATUS IN THE SYSTEM

Make sure that the Laptop has wireless device.
Make sure that the wireless device is properly installed.
Turn the Wireless device on.

NETWORK CONFIGURATION (TCP/IP):

The TCP/IP must be DHCP enabled. Follow the steps below on how to enable the DHCP.
Logon to Windows XP using an Administrator account

 

Click Start button à Control Panel à Network Connections

 

If you do not have a similar figure as the one on the right side, click on the Switch Classic View located in the bar on the left side of the window.

 

 

 

Right click the Wireless Network Connection, select properties from the popup menu


 

Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, then click the Properties button.


 

If you see a group of numbers in this section
WRITE THEM ON A PIECE OF PAPER.
You need these numbers agian to restore your previous WIFI State.

Make sure the Obtain an IP address automatically and the Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected as shown in Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box.

Press OK button in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box.

Press OK button in the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box.

 


 

Click Start à Control Panel à Network Connections

Right Click on the Wireless device and select View Available Wireless Network from popup menu.

Make sure that the wireless device has NDU WIFI in sight and connected.

Make sure the third party firewall (Norton, Personal Firewall…) is not block the wireless connection

PROXY CONFIGURATION

Open the browser and remove all proxy settings, for example, in Internet Explorer 6 or 7,

CREATE THE VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK (VPN) CONNECTION

 

 

If the Network connections window is not opened in front of you (if not refer to first top figure).

                                         Click on the File menu then scroll to New Connection… item.

 

 

 

Click Next button in the Welcome to the New Connection Wizard dialog box

 


 

Select connect to the network at my workplace option in the Network Type Connection Type dialog box then click the Next  button.

 


 

Select the Virtual Private Network connection option in the New Connection Wizard dialog box, then click the Next button

 


 

Type NDU Main Campus connection in the connection Name dialog box, then click the Next button.

 

(optional) If Public Network dialog box appears, select Do not dial the initial connection option.  Click the Next button

otherwise proceed to next step

 

Type wifi.ndu.edu.lb in the VPN Server Selection dialog box, then click the Next button

 

Put a check mark next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop in the Completing the New Connection Wizard dialog box, then click the Finish button


 

In Connect NDU Connection dialog box
Type your NDU account usernamendu.edu.lb next to User name:
Type the your PINCODE next to Password:

In order not to enter every time your username and password, put a check mark next Save this user name and password for the following users: checkbox and select Anyone who uses this computer option, finally click connect

 

Configure the VPN proxy setting

In the control panel of MS Windows XP click on classic view (left side bar)

Click on the Internet Options

Select the connections tab

Select the NDU Main Campus Connection VPN connection

click settings button
NOT
the LAN Settings button

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Put a check mark next to Use a proxy server…

Type in the address: wproxy.ndu.edu.lb and in the ports 8080

 

 

Press the OK button twice and then press Connect button
