
Marie Tannous is a full time assistant professor in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences at Notre Dame University North Campus. She was awarded the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada scholarship to pursue her Ph.D. in Clinical Chemistry at the University of Windsor. Her long term research focuses on the clinical aspects of nitric oxide and related compounds. The work for her latest publication in the journal of diabetes, Essential role for membrane lipid rafts in interleukin-1 beta-induced nitric oxide release from insulin-secreting cells: potential regulation by caveolin-1, was conducted at Wayne State University where she was involved extensively in research. She is currently interested in pursuing research in the area of diabetes focusing on the relationship[s] between nitric oxide and the dysfunction of mitochondrial proteins leading to the demise of pancreatic beta cell in type I diabetes. She currently teaches courses related to the areas of Biochemistry, Biology and Nutrition.
