Layla Khalaf-Kairouz has specialized in risk assessment of contaminated sites by organic and inorganic pollutants. Her published dissertation “Development of an Analysis Method for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Soil with Regard to Danger Assessment of Inherited Wastes in Germany, 1995, demonstrated an analytical method for the determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Soil. Heavy metals were analyzed also in soil samples of 9 sites. The contamination risks were assessed and recommendations were given to the city municipality with regard to future uses of the land. In Lebanon her interests are for Environmental Impact Assessment, Geo-Environmental hazards of river basins and Occupational hazards. Currently she has two main research interests the first is the influences of the global warming on the countries water resources and second the air Pollution in the area of Zouk Mosbeh, with respect to the health impacts on the local population and the monitoring of the air quality.
