After receiving his bachelor degree in psychology from the American University of Beirut, Simon Abou Jaoude was wowed in the DES program in Clinical Psychology by Freud, Jung and Adler and intrigued by Carl Rogers and Victor Frankl.  He is currently in his final stage of his PhD dissertation on Male Depression, where he benefited from such great mentors as Prof. Lela Chikhani-Nacouz, and Prof. Paul Boyesen. He learned that being an academician, a clinician and a therapist indeed is possible. Just as he was finishing his DES degree; Simon Abou Jaoude did his initial group psychotherapy internship with Prof. Chikhani. At the same time he started on his job as a faculty member at Notre Dame University, while also continuing his post-graduate psychotherapy training for 8 years in a therapy training led by Paul Boyesen, President of the European Association of Psychotherapy at the time, one of the most accomplished psychotherapists in Europe. Now he finds himself deeply immersed in the development of psychotherapy training in Lebanon.

Simon Abou Jaoude’s teaching approaches integrate theory and practice between clinical psychology and psychotherapy. His academic interests include theories of psychotherapy, abnormal psychology, learning and behavioral difficulties, and the utility of psychology in addressing pressing personal and social problems.

In the last two years, Simon Abou Jaoude has become increasingly interested in role of spirituality as a shielding attribute in mental health problems. He is conducting studies about how a spiritual orientation and religious practices may supplement and create more positive and lasting therapeutic benefits.
