
Walid C. Assaf was born in Baghdad of Lebanese parents and educated in the United States. He graduated from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana with a BS Degree in chemical-engineering and from Iowa State in Ames, Iowa with the masters and PhD degrees in nuclear engineering.
He worked for the US Department of Defense, Monsanto Research Corporation in Miamisburg, Ohio on projects related to the space nuclear auxiliary power program (SNAP) and the United States Navy with Bettis Atomic Power Laboratories in Pittsburgh, Pa. on the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
The Department of Defense and the US Navy were responsible for research, design construction, operation and maintenance of the US nuclear-powered warships.
Was assistant professor in Mechanical Engineering at AUB in 1968 and later head of operations of AUB’s Off Campus Program in Jounieh. Served as chairman of the mechanical engineering department at NDU for six years and was chief engineer for al Sugair Consulting Engineers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He worked for Price Water House – Abu Ghazaleh consultants in Saudi Arabia, Carrier Corporation and MABCO in various executive and technical positions.
He has been with NDU since 1991 and is credited in part for establishing the engineering school in which he currently works as member of the faculty in the department of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Assaf lives in Monsef near Aamchit. He is married and has five children all of whom reside in the united states.
