Note from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (DMS) at Notre Dame University-Louaizé NDU.

By NDU standards, the DMS is one of the largest departments with 16 full time faculty members dedicated to research and teaching and around 85 students. It offers an excellent and challenging environment to study mathematics and its applications.

At the undergraduate level, we offer a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mathematics (90 cr.) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Sciences (94 cr.). At the graduate level, we offer a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Mathematics (33 cr.), and a Master of Science degree in Financial Mathematics (33 cr.). In fall 2019, the DMS started to offer a Master Degree in Actuarial Sciences (30 cr.) that is supported by Chedid Re through scholarships for graduate students. The Sciences Tutoring Center, constituted from graduate fellows, offers individualized instruction and efficient guidance for NDU students in need of extra help and enrichment. Moreover, the department offers a wide selection of service courses designed to provide quality Mathematics instruction for Engineering, Business, Architecture, Computer Science and Science students who can also earn a minor in Mathematics (15 cr.) and a minor in Actuarial Sciences (18 cr.).

Our Alumni have secured excellent jobs at colleges, universities, business firms and industries, mainly in Lebanon and the Arab countries. Some of them have pursued their Ph.D. studies all over the world and have also been recipients of Fulbright scholarships on several occasions.

Research in the DMS is an essential part of the faculty members’ activities. It has been increased steadily as shown by the number of articles published in international and reputable journals.  The DMS is staffed with dedicated faculty members whose fields of interests include, but are not limited to, Algebra, Linear Algebra, Analysis, Geometry, Differential Equations, Integral Equations, Information Theory, Number Theory, Topology, Numerical Analysis, Probability and Statistics, Operations Research, Time Series Analysis, Category theory and Actuarial Sciences.

Our society is in high demand of quality Mathematics teachers, Statisticians, Consultants, Actuarial Scientists and Financial Mathematicians. Whether you are a prospective student looking to study Mathematics or a prospective faculty member looking for an environment that supports high-quality education and research, you are welcome to join our department.
