Dr. Sergio Lopez Figueroa

Sergio López Figueroa A cultural activist, composer and creative producer, Sergio López Figueroa is the director and founder of Big Bang Lab (www.bigbang-lab.com), a cultural-social enterprise working across Film, Music and Heritage from innovation consultancy to independent production. With Big Bang Lab, Sergio is helping organisations to find new commercial, cultural and social value through the creative re-use of archives, collective creativity and collaboration. Originally from the Canary Islands, Spain, Sergio is a composer with a classical and film music background having completed several business training courses as well as a Master in Digital Content Management, a course focused in the business, technical and legal aspects of the content creative industries. He has an entrepreneurial attitude and a forward thinking mind. He moved to the UK and studied music composition for film at Bournemouth University and the National Film & Television School, fixing his residence in London. He then specialized in new music for silent films, winning the Harlock award at the Rimusicazioni Film Festival for his score for Un Chien Andalou. In 2007 he was commissioned by Tate modern to write and produced Clonic Mutations for the Dali exhibition, a successful programme of live music scores for silent films. He received a business start-up incentive award for his vision to create a multicultural classical music ensemble representing the communities in London, both as a platform for new music and social inclusion projects. Sergio promotes creativity, intercultural ctizenship, innovation and interdisciplinary work through workshops, articles and conferences. In 2009 he won an international Cultural Leadership award supported by the British Council. His experience in Delhi was a test to reassure the value of a Big Bang Lab model across cultures. Delhi City Symphony was the outcome of converting layers of complex information, diverse partners and media to a simple and transferable collaborative programme, a contemporary silent film about the city where underprivileged children and classical Indian musicians were at the centre of the process. His contribution to the dissemination of cultural heritage, global citizenship, the creative use of audio-visual archives and new music production has proved particularly rewarding for participants and audiences. He is introducing Cultural Social Responsibility as a new development of CSR including heritage, digital media literacy, Intergenerational knowledge transfer and cultural diversity. Global City Symphonies is Big Bang Lab's CSR programme for social inclusion and urban regeneration, connecting citizens and cities facing common challenges and allowing communities to contribute to more liveable cities.
